Requirements on permanently installed draglines/rails
Draglines or rails installed on walkways must comply with SS-EN 516 Class 2, roof ladder SS-EN 12951 Class 2, ridge rail SS 831331 and for snow fence SS 831335.
New European standards are currently being developed. In the meantime, the following maximum stopping distances for glide locks/runners on draglines or rails are used.
- Dragline or rail installed at 0-15 degrees, or 2.5 metres in order to be able to work along side of a sloping roof.
- Dragline or rail installed at a 15-45 degree slope - 1.2 metres
- Dragline or rail installed at a 45 degree or greater slope - 0.3 metres
- Dragline or rail installed closer than 2 metres from the roof edge - 0.3 metres
Dragline or rail on a vertical ladder must comply with SS-EN 353.
Remember that
When using of rails/draglines for work outside of the access route, this should be installed on the same side where the work is performed, or else it can be positioned so that double-sided use is possible.
Upon installation of the walkway at the ridge, the dragline shall terminate approximately 2 m from the building’s gable.
Upon installation of draglines on the ridge rail/snow fence, it shall terminate 2 metres from the edge of the roof.
At the access points, there shall be information about: when the device was installed and by whom, when it was last inspected and approved, the number of people that can simultaneously use the dragline/rail system per unit (for example: total, per metre, between brackets/mounts).
If any special glide locks are to be used, there must be at least two of these accessible on the dragline or rail. Any users beyond these must be able to anchor (secure themselves) in another manner.
