Ladder with slipguard
A ground ladder (loose ladder) may be used at an access height of 5 metres or less.
In that case, it is required to have a fixed slipguard in accordance with 8313 42:2014 at the roof foot/roof edge and that the ladder satisfy the criteria set out in EN 131 SS 2091 or INSTA 650.
Ladders exceeding 4 m shall be equipped with a step widener at the bottom.
Remember that
The slipguard for loose steps shall normally be placed so that the ground ladder stands at the side of the ladder in direct connection to this. The ground ladder will then end approximately 1 m over the edge of the roof edge/roof foot. At a roof pitch over 45 degrees, the slipguard is placed so that the loose ladder stands directly under the roof ladder. By placing it directly under the roof ladder, the ground ladder’s uppermost rung shall rest against the slipguard.
One-sided slipguards shall be installed so that abutting ladders cannot rock, i.e., the side pieces of the ladder shall lie against the edge of the roof or equivalent.
Step wideners are recommended, even at access heights of less than 4 m.
